What is SandDune?

SandDune turns the notebooks on your shelf into a living memory you can search, question, and watch grow — without giving up the pen.

All documentation articles

SandDune is for people who write by hand. You keep the notebook, the pen, and the ritual. SandDune adds the one thing paper never had: a way to get your words back out.

Here's the whole loop:

  1. Photograph a page after you write it.
  2. SandDune transcribes your handwriting into editable digital text in seconds.
  3. Your pages become an archive you can search, ask questions about, and watch grow over time.

What you can do with your archive

  • Search — find the page where you wrote that thing, in seconds instead of twenty minutes of flipping. See Search.
  • Ask — ask a question in plain language ("What did I say about my sister's wedding?") and get an answer drawn only from your own pages, with citations linking back to each one. See Ask.
  • Live Highlights — tap any line of your handwriting in a photo and see exactly what it says, ready to copy or correct. See Live Highlights.
  • Timelines — save a question you care about ("How is my relationship with running going?") and re-ask it over time. Each answer becomes a dated entry, so you can watch your own thinking change. See Timelines.
  • Notebooks, stars, and a calendar — organize pages into collections, mark favorites, and browse your writing month by month.
  • Monthly Artifacts and streaks — a quiet record of your writing practice: shareable monthly summaries, writing streaks, and word counts.

What SandDune is not

  • It's not a typing app. There is no blank page waiting for you to type into. Your notebook is the input.
  • It's not trying to replace paper. The handwritten page stays the first-class object — the photo, the ink, the margins. The digital text serves the page, not the other way around.
  • It's not a general chatbot. Ask answers from your notes, cites your pages, and says so when your notes don't contain the answer.

Where it runs

SandDune is a web app at sanddune.ai. It works in any modern browser — on your phone (where your camera is) and on your computer. There's no app store download; on a phone you can add it to your home screen from the browser menu for one-tap access.
