A Notebook in SandDune is a collection of notes — usually mirroring a physical notebook ("Hobonichi 2026"), a practice ("Morning Pages"), or a theme ("Marathon training"). Notes can belong to any number of notebooks, so a page can live in both "2026 Journal" and "Health" at once.
Notebooks are unlimited on every plan.
Create your first notebook
- On the dashboard, tap the notebook icon (next to the star, above your notes).
- Tap + and give it a Name (required). Specification and Purpose are optional notes-to-self about what belongs inside.
- (Optional) Upload a cover image — otherwise the notebook gets a tasteful generated cover.
- Tap save. Your notebook appears as a card.
Add notes to a notebook
- When creating a note — pick notebooks in the Notebook field before you tap Transcribe.
- From an existing note — open the note, tap Edit, and change its notebooks there. You can add and remove freely; nothing is duplicated.
Inside a notebook
Tap a notebook card to open it. You'll see just its notes, and the search bar scopes itself: keyword search looks only at these notes, and Ask answers only from this notebook — perfect for questions like "How has this project been going?" asked against the project's own log.
Removing and deleting
- Removing a note from a notebook (via the note's Edit page) never deletes the note — it just leaves the collection.
- Deleting a whole notebook removes only the grouping. Every note inside stays in your archive, untouched. You'll be told how many notes it contains before you confirm.
